Artificial-intelligence technology and algorithms at the core of a new generation of dual-use autonomous vessels for defence, security and the blue economy

Skaramangas Shipyards, Qualco Group and Olympic Marine announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the research, development, production and demonstration of a multi-purpose Unmanned Autonomous Surface Vessel.

The agreement brings together two groups and three leaders in the Greek industry and technology: the historic shipbuilding strength and deep experience of Skaramangas Shipyards in complex naval systems; Qualco Group’s cutting-edge software and artificial intelligence; and the modern manufacturing expertise of Olympic Marine in producing advanced composite-material hulls. Together they aspire to deliver something the Greek market has never seen: a fully Greek autonomous surface vessel, designed, programmed, and built in our country, aimed at both the domestic and international markets.

The three companies will jointly leverage their expertise, human resources, and infrastructure, with a shared focus on the competitiveness, quality and reliability of the final product.

At a time when the security of the seas, underwater infrastructure and energy networks is at the centre of international attention, the market for unmanned autonomous surface vessels is emerging as one of the most strategic and fastest-growing worldwide. This joint initiative places Greece and all three companies at the forefront of that market, with a product built to meet the applicable standards and certification requirements for export to international markets.
